Nikki Warren's Story

The NaturoBest Founder Story
How PCOS, naturopathic practice, and careful formulation shaped the brand.
NaturoBest began with a search for clarity around women’s health, starting with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS).
In 2003, while working as a flight attendant, Nikki Warren was diagnosed with PCOS. Her period had been absent for over a year. She was experiencing acne and weight gain that did not reflect how she was living. She wanted a clear explanation for what was happening in her body and a way to restore her cycle.
After seeing multiple doctors and trialling different approaches with little change, Nikki eventually saw a naturopath who prescribed a personalised herbal formula. Over the following weeks, her period returned, her skin improved, and her weight began to stabilise. What stood out was not the speed of change, but that the approach addressed her health as a whole, rather than isolated symptoms.
That experience prompted a major decision. Nikki enrolled to study naturopathy and herbal medicine while still working as a flight attendant. She wanted to understand why that treatment worked, how to apply it safely, and how to bring the same level of clinical reasoning into care for other women.
PCOS, an unplanned pregnancy, and what actually happened
While she was studying, Nikki experienced an unplanned pregnancy with her first child, Taylah.
The herbal support she had used was prescribed to address PCOS symptoms and amenorrhoea, not as a fertility protocol. PCOS can interfere with ovulation and hormonal regulation, and in Nikki’s case, once her cycle returned and hormonal function improved, she fell pregnant unexpectedly.
This experience reinforced how easily reproductive health stories can be oversimplified. It also shaped Nikki’s approach to formulation and communication. NaturoBest focuses on supporting health and nutrient needs across each life stage.
From clinic to the first prenatal formula
After completing her training, Nikki worked as a naturopath and medical herbalist with a focus on women’s hormonal health, fertility support, and pregnancy care. In clinic, she saw the same recurring issues. Women were overwhelmed by options, confused by labels, and often using products that did not match their life stage or clinical needs.
Around ten years after her PCOS diagnosis, Nikki began planning a second pregnancy. This time, conception was deliberate. She applied everything she had learned in practice, including a structured preconception care plan and careful attention to nutrient forms, dosing, and safety in pregnancy.
During that pregnancy, she developed her own prenatal formula, with a focus on:
- bioavailable nutrient forms
- doses aligned with research and clinical use
- support for common pregnancy needs, including morning sickness, within safety guidelines
The first trimester formula made a noticeable difference to her experience with morning sickness this time round. She also felt much healthier and less fatigued during the entire pregnancy. Over time, she saw similar patterns with clients who used the same approach, reporting improved tolerance and support. It became clear there was a gap between what worked in practice and what was widely available on the shelf.
The launch of NaturoBest
NaturoBest was launched in 2016 to close that gap. The aim was simple. To provide targeted, practitioner-designed formulations for preconception, pregnancy, and postpartum that meet Australia’s strict regulatory standards.
From the beginning, NaturoBest has been built around a few core principles:
- formulas are stage specific, not one size fits all
- ingredients are selected for their form, dose, and safety profile
- products are manufactured in Australia at a GMP-certified manufacturing facility
- claims remain aligned with evidence and regulation
Nikki moved from one-to-one consultations into full-time product development so more women could access the same depth of thinking she applied in clinic.
In 2020, her work was recognised with two silver AusMumpreneur Awards for innovation and contribution to women’s wellness.
In 2024, NaturoBest was awarded The Australian Business Awards Product Innovation Award for Prenatal Trimester One with Ginger. In addition to this award, NaturoBest was a Queensland State Finalist in two categories of the Telstra Best of Business Awards - Championing Health and Outstanding Growth.
The Prenatal Trimester One with Ginger was also awarded Best Pregnancy Supplement by Product Review for two years in a row in 2023 and 2024.
